Well it has certainly been a long time since I have been involved with a blog-or even Barefoot books for that matter!
On November 29th I gave birth to sweet little baby Grace who weighed in at 6 pounds 6 ounces, 19 inches . She arrived about 5 days earlier than expected because I was diagnosed with mild preeclampsia. The whole process was a bit difficult because I required a C-section with a vertical incision-that left me with 40 staples (ouch), a spinal AND an epidural, a complete bowel prep prior to the surgery...... I had some minor problems but after 5 days I took little Grace home. My blood pressure was still elevated, but safe and I went home on blood pressure medication.
But 2 days later, I was back i the ER with a blood pressure of 195/124-a very dangerous level. Despite IV blood pressure medication it would not come down and I was admitted. The scariest part was that Preeclampsia usually resolves it self after the birth, in fact delivery of the baby is the cure. Mine was peaking AFTER the birth, which does happen but is not common. I was given IV magnesium sulfate to prevent seizures or stoke, and had to send little baby Grace home without me. For the next 5 days my husband and mother took care of the kids, while I waited for my blood pressure to come.
Once home I had to check my blood pressure regularly continue to take meds, and have regular Dr. visits. After weeks of just not feeling well & a booming headache I was back at the ER. I had a bad sinus infection-thankfully nothing serious.
I started to feel somewhat like my old self again when Grace was 7 weeks old-which was about the time she stated sleeping through the night -8 hours! The extra sleep must have really helped! It was a long haul.
Today Grace is almost three months, and I am so thankful that despite everything she is a very healthy little girl.
Now That things are returning to normal, and I am returning to work-I am going to make March my return to Barefoot Books month!
I will be posting updates & ideas soon......
